How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
Spending time outdoors can be a wonderful and rewarding experience. But after years, the sun exposure starts to take its toll. Between sun damage and other skin discoloration, such as acne scars, birthmarks, or wrinkles, many people are turning to cosmetic treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, to rejuvenate their skin.
Warts
If you think skin resurfacing might be a good answer to your skin problems, we recommend a complimentary, in-person consultation so we can customize a treatment plan that will target your concerns.
Process: scheduling
If we determine during your consultation that skin resurfacing is your best option, the next step is to plan when to schedule your first appointment.
It is important to remember that multiple treatments are usually required to yield the best results. In most cases, pigmentation issues take one to two sessions, whereas acne scarring can take three to five.
Sessions need to be spaced out at minimum four weeks apart, and in the case of photodamage, you will need six to eight weeks in-between. There are no limitations on what time of year you can start laser resurfacing, however, limited sun exposure is recommended, making the winter months ideal.
What to expect: Laser Resurfacing treatment process
At Skintegrity your skin resurfacing session will start by one of our professionals administering a topical numbing cream and allowing you to relax and prepare for your session. You should plan on the entire appointment taking around two hours for preparation and treatment. The actual laser treatment will take about 35 minutes to an hour, and most patients experience minimal to no pain.
After your session is over and the numbing cream wears off, pain is commonly described as similar to a sunburn. You will be sent home with information on how to clean and take care of your skin during the healing process, which will peel and heal within about ten days.
What to expect: Healing
The most essential part of the recovery and healing process is to make sure you are properly moisturizing and using UV protection.
Your skin will be extremely sensitive to harsh products and sun exposure for some time after the procedure. We advocate for our clients to switch their at-home skincare routine to professional, medical grade products, such as Dermaquest, Environ, or PCA. These products not only protect your skin but have shown to increase results up to 40%. We can also provide guidance on what makeup products help with camouflaging during the healing process while still aiding in recovery.
Fraxel skin resurfacing is one of the most effective wavelengths for anti-aging and overall skin rejuvenation. This treatment option allows for fast, discrete healing and has been proven to provide long-lasting results and overall younger, healthier looking skin. At Skintegrity Med Spa, we would love to help you achieve the youthful skin you want. Schedule a consultation today.
