Some women have varicose veins while some are lucky enough to have flawless legs. What causes them in the first place? Here are some factors that contribute to the appearance of these unsightly, swollen veins.
- Age – The older we get, the more the walls of the veins become less elastic and more prone to venous disorders.
- Lack of exercise – If you have a stagnant lifestyle, you are setting yourself up to have varicose veins. Standing still or sitting down for long periods of time leads to the stagnation of blood in the legs and veins.
- High heeled shoes – Wearing very high heels restricts the blood flow causing blockage in the veins and making them swollen.
- Obesity – This is a risk factor because of the increased pressure of excess fat. Inherited weakness of the valves in the veins and female hormonal problems (and pregnancy) are other risk factors.
